Trancers

This fizzing cheapo sci-fi actioner from no-frills genre specialist Band is a shameless amalgam of Blade Runner and The Terminator. So shameless, unpretentious and fast-paced, in fact, it's actually a lot of fun. Thomerson is Jack Deth, 23rd century cop in the battle against the human zombies (or Trancers) in thrall to Stefani's evil mastermind. The latter has skipped back in time and must be stopped before he wipes out the ancestors of Angel City's ruling Counsellors. With Hunt's 1985 heroine a plucky foil, and Thomerson an amiably modest superhero, the film offers breezy thrills and an amusing line in future speak ('Dry hair is for squids,' apparently), without ever taking on more than its budget will allow.
