A cult movie - about the Organisation's efforts to move in on the truck hijacking operation run by Anna and her girls - that drew lavish praise as Greek tragedy transposed to New Mexico and the funniest film since Lubitsch's To Be or Not To Be. How this relates to a juicy pulp movie with its (to quote the ad) 'double-clutchin'... gear-jammin' mamas who like a lot of hijackin' by day... a lot of heavy truckin' by night', you'll have to work out for yourself. The manic glee that Lester elicits from his performers, and his eye for incongruities, make for a true eccentricity. And the sight of his matriarchy consistently undermining male morale should shake staider patrons by the scruff of the neck. Complete with sub-Johnny Cash soundtrack and virtually incomprehensible plot.
