We Are Wizards

As with most uncontrollable pop-cultural phenomena, the various groups and organizations that have popped up around the Harry Potter franchise are more fascinating than the bespectacled object of their slavish devotion. We Are Wizards explores Potter-related litigation, boorish accusations of witchcraft and “wizard rock”—Potter-themed bands like the Hungarian Horntails that play magical ditties for adoring, mostly underage crowds. The star of this film, though, is Brad Neely—a foulmouthed, slightly unhinged cartoonist whose two-dimensional Mystery Science Theater–style take on the Potter movies ironically gives them more depth than the rotating stable of directors for Warner Bros. ever could.
