Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio Hotel makes its Mumbai debut with 47-rooms, a pan-Asian restaurant, rooftop bar and lobby cafe in Fort

SoBo’s heritage district gets an upgrade as a new address gets added for a staycation, rooftop sundowner, or a dinner date. The Ballard Mumbai – a Tribute Portfolio Hotel by Marriott Bonvoy – has opened in the Fort precinct, marking Marriott International’s first Tribute Portfolio property in the city. Opposite the iconic General Post Office (GPO), in the historic Ballard Estate neighbourhood, this 47-room boutique hotel brings old Bombay architecture, Art Deco-inspired interiors and three dining spaces: Goma, a pan-Asian restaurant; Goma Sky Bar, and The Kettle Room, a cafe.
The Ballard Mumbai takes its inspiration from the architecture and cultural character of South Mumbai: the exterior draws on the Victorian, Edwardian and Neoclassical styles found around Fort, with the arches of the GPO across the road informing its design. However, the interior mood shifts to Art Deco, with polished surfaces, geometric details, and monochrome flooring.
The hotel’s 47 rooms are available across different categories: Standard, Premium, Deluxe, and Suite categories, plus a Presidential Suite. While the vintage radios and telephones add a nostalgic touch, the contemporary features like wireless charging and eco-friendly amenities bring the rooms into the present. Some rooms also provide a view of the GPO and Mumbai Port.
The Ballard Mumbai offers a dining space, Goma, bringing Japanese precision, Chinese flavours and Thai warmth under a single roof. The food menu spans dim sum, smoky grilled dishes, hand-rolled sushi – plus a sushi counter and a grill – plus richly flavoured curries. Goma is open for lunch and dinner, allowing diners the option for both midday meals and after-work plans with a view to General Post Office, Ballard Pier and the waterfront.
For drinks, there’s Goma Sky Bar upstairs, the rooftop lounge overlooking Mumbai Port. It pairs signature cocktails with Asian small plates, while the open-air setting makes sunset the ideal time to settle in.
There's also a third dining space at The Ballard Mumbai: The Kettle Room. It is a lobby cafe that takes its inspiration from the humble kettle and its place in old Bombay. The cafe menu includes speciality coffee, handcrafted teas, freshly baked treats, plus contemporary takes on bun maska. The hotel also offers 24-hour in-room dining, with separate breakfast, all-day and midnight menus.
Beyond the restaurants and bars, guests at The Ballard Mumbai can access gym and event spaces – with Goma Sky Bar also available for intimate celebrations. The location is another draw: Horniman Circle, the Asiatic Society Library, Flora Fountain, and Kala Ghoda are within easy reach, while CSMT station is just a short distance away.
With its heritage-led design, compact boutique scale and three distinct dining concepts, The Ballard brings a new hospitality address to one of Mumbai’s favourite neighbourhoods.
