The Kala Ghoda favourite restaurant brings handmade dim sum, ramen and Japanese whisky to Mumbai's business district

The after-work dining scene in Mumbai gets a new address, and it comes with plenty of steaming dim sum and Japanese whisky. The popular Cantonese restaurant The Dimsum Room opens its first suburban outpost in one of the city’s busiest neighbourhoods: BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex). Called The Dimsum Room Izakaya, the new restaurant inside One BKC brings its Cantonese roots together with the easygoing spirit of Japanese izakaya culture, with a menu designed for sharing and sipping.
The idea behind the new space is simple: blend the laid-back drink-and-dine culture of Japanese izakayas with the convivial atmosphere of Hong Kong tea houses. From inside, you’ll find familiar elements from the brand’s existing space in Kala Ghoda, including the Listening Room’s distinctive ceiling Speakeasy architectural details. There’s also a visible live kitchen plus four dedicated stations for dim sum, noodles and ramen, wok preparations, and izakaya favourites, putting the cooking action in full view.
Whether you're squeezing in a business lunch, settling in for a leisurely evening or catching up with colleagues after work, The Dimsum Room, Izakaya in BKC is set to accommodate it all.
The centre stage is, of course, Dim sum – handmade baskets prepared fresh every day. The Dimsum Room in BKC expands the menu beyond just Cantonese foundations with other East Asian and Japanese influences. The menu includes steaming ramen bowls, crisp tempura, small plates, skewers and Malatand – a spicy Sichuan-style soup known for its numbing peppercorns and fermented chilli bean paste.
Additionally, the food menu also spans Salmon Tataki, Tebasaki Chicken Wings, Chicken Karaage, and Pork Shogayaki – plus Mushroom and Corn Korokke and Tofu Ponzu.
The drinks menu at The Dimsum Room, Izakaya, changes gears as the day progresses: fresh juices, iced teas, homemade sodas, smoothies, coffee and a Yum Cha tea experience in daytime, and local craft beer, Japanese whisky, sake, and shochu in the evening.
The cocktail menu adds Shizuku, Guavon, Kinoko Fashioned and DR Highball ( made with Toki Japanese whisky, coffee, coconut and soda). Ingredients like shiso, pandan, yuzu and matcha will add an Asian twist to the drink selections.
With its expanded menu and drinks-led approach, The Dimsum Room's BKC outpost gives the brand a new way to bring people around the table. And in a neighbourhood where the workday can stretch well into the evening, a few baskets of dim sum and a highball might be just the excuse to log off.
