The best supper clubs in Mumbai

Sick of dining out at restaurants with long queues and loud diners? These supper clubs in the city are doing personalised dining like no other

Supper clubs are kind of still the shiny new thing. And in a city as quick-paced as Mumbai, it’s easy to see their appeal. There’s that allure of a curated social gathering, the premium feel of a small, home-cooked menu, and the general exclusivity of being part of a small bunch of people who’re as interested in being there as you are. It’s a chance to make friends, eat great food, and escape the general impersonality of crowded bars and restaurants.

Most supper clubs are underscored by the same approach – an appreciation for the thought, effort, and love that goes into feeding people food that’s cooked with passion. Here are the supper clubs best embodying that in Mumbai right now.

Chef Pranshu’s serious enough about plant-based food to turn it into a supper experience that rivals the best, meatiest clubs in Mumbai. The food is fun, creative, and Pranshu focuses on themes and menus that blur the lines between art and dining.

The experience ranges from 10-course meals created in collaboration with close friends, to eclectic decor featuring Dali-esque clocks and cutlery. The themes are simple – Italian dinner to ramen night to Mediterranean mezzes – but researched and executed to perfection, with much of the produce sometimes being imported directly from the country in feature.

Prices vary depending on the theme, but you’re guaranteed to leave the table of about 15-20 people with at least one friend and a couple souvenirs. The suppers are also big on poetry readings, games, and multiple toasts through the night. It is obvious how passionate Chef Pranshu is about the art of feeding people.

Time Out tip: The location’s tougher to find than it initially seems, so factor that in before diving into the Mumbai rush hour traffic. You’re also going to be in for a late night, so expect to wrap up around midnight or later.

Every Aroma | Santacruz East

Chef Reshma Mane has been in the supper club game long before it became a buzzword. In 2015, she began what she calls a ‘home-dining’ experience, primarily for tourists to taste regional Indian cuisines that were hard to come by in the city. Today, her menu’s open to locals as well as travellers.

Reshma curates Maharashtrian Kolapuri and South Indian menus derived from her roots and travels, with a special attention to detail, like sourcing masalas directly from Coorg. She aims to evoke nostalgia, and often recounts stories diners share in connection to the food she serves them. It’s often that you’ll find some diners coming to her for just one specific dish on the menu.

Chef Reshma’s menu includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, enough for a total of about 10 people, who she serves in her home. She also offers a catering service for a 5-7 course meal at any guest’s home, any day of the week for lunch or dinner.

Price: ₹1,600-2,500 per person

House of Málà | Khar

What started off as a passion project two and half years ago by two sisters, Saloni and Prachi Gupta, has evolved into a buzzing supper club that’s always booked out. Inspired by a tryst with Sichuan cuisine after a trip to China, the ever-changing vegetarian menu features an appetiser, cold noodle salad, rice and noodle dishes, dessert, and mocktails, capturing the essence of málà, the unique numbing spice extracted from Sichuan peppercorns.

Years of research have led the duo to pack 7-8 flavour profiles in every bite of food, and let me tell you, this is a crazy good deal, because authentic Sichuan cuisine hasn’t really made it to Mumbai yet.

Don’t miss a chance to dine at the 14-seater community table in their home, although they do private catering for larger groups at a cost of Rs. 20,000 and upwards.

Price: ₹3,250 per person

Around the Table | Bandra

Sisters-in-law Rukaiya and Ishita have succeeded in building one of the city’s only non-cuisine focused supper clubs. First launched in 2023, the club quickly became a space for building community. The ‘supper’ is almost always whimsically themed (Mamma Mia; Alice in Wonderland) and built around the idea of slow living: three hours of games, food, and conversation with no agenda.

In just a couple of years, the club’s built a loyal customer base, with people attending monthly suppers more than ten times over. Rukaiya says it’s the food that keeps bringing the people back, but to be fair, exclusivity is the name of the game, because the club is invite-only by Google form. Frequent customers get to join a WhatsApp group which hosts pot lucks, murder mysteries, and house concerts on top of the meals.

Suppers range from eight to ten courses, including two drinks each. They’re held every weekend at the hosts’ home, seating up to eight people. They also cater private events for larger groups up to 18 folks.

Price: ₹4,000 per person (includes two cocktails)

Zahvi | Andheri West

The current best solution to Mumbai’s serious Korean BBQ deficiency has got to be Zahvi, a supper club run by Shruti, inspired by her travels to Korea. What she kickstarted in 2023 after 20 years in the hospitality industry has turned into a serious supper club that serves curated Korean vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals.

For vegetarians, Zahvi offers the full Korean dining experience, with a 4-5 course meal customised to food preferences and allergies. It’s a great attempt to make the cuisine as inclusive as possible while catering to the Indian palate. The K-BBQ experience, though, offers 4-6 banchans or accompaniments with meats, sauces, and kimchi. It’s worth mentioning that the menu is hyperlocal and seasonal, while simultaneously focusing on the drying and fermentation processes that makes Korean food so unique.

What’s really cool is that Zahvi also hosts annual food tour trips to Korea in the first week of November if you’re feeling adventurous. She also caters private dinners for larger groups – costs vary.

Price: ₹3,200 per person
