The best swimming pools in Mumbai

The best hotel pools in Mumbai you can rent for the day, sans the hassle of forking out on a room or packing a suitcase

Mumbai’s surrounded by water, which is a cruel joke if you enjoy swimming. The sea only looks lovely from a distance; public pools involve timings, lane discipline and silicone caps so tight you give up trying to put one on and go home dry. Private club pools are private in the way only old Bombay gymkhanas can be private – bureaucratic, faintly feudal and lovely if you already happen to be inside.

Hotel pools are the loophole. Many of the city’s best ones are open to non-resident guests through day passes, brunch packages, spa access or memberships, though you usually have to call and ask nicely.

Lucky for you, we’ve done the admin. Some of these pools are long enough for proper cardio; most are better for lounging with a drink and a club sandwich. A few come with whirlpools, cabanas, steam and sauna rooms, padel courts or direct beach access. There are Juhu old-timers that remind us of childhood because, wonderfully, they still look the same and then there’s the newer, shinier pools with recovery menus and biohacking add-ons like cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

We’ve picked pools that are clean, well-run and generous with space, which matters in a city that gives you so little of it. We’ve tried enough of them to say this with conviction – Mumbai’s pool scene is much better than anyone will tell you. Here are our top picks.

The best hotel swimming pools in Mumbai

JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar | Andheri

We know what this sounds like – going all the way to the airport, where the possibility of a real holiday is already taunting you from the departure gates at T2, only to stop at a swimming pool outside. But hear us out. We’ve been regulars for over a decade. It’s large, clean and properly looked after, with enough length for laps, enough loungers for doing nothing, and a whirlpool at one end for when you’ve suffered enough cardio. There are palms overhead, shaded cabanas with ceiling fans, bento boxes with snacks on call and a rotating cast of travellers from everywhere to sustain the illusion that you’re on holiday too.

Time Out tip: Spend the extra ₹2,000 for spa access and head straight for the hot tub with the twinkling ceiling. It’s giving fake starry sky but real nervous-system reset.

Price: ₹2,000 per person, ₹3,500 for a couple and ₹1,000 for children, plus taxes.

Address: IA Project Road, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Andheri, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400099

Phone: +91 22-68828999

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Taj Lands End | Bandra West

The day pass does not get you into the terrace lap pool inside the fitness centre but the outdoor pool is the one you want anyway – two lagoon-like pools connected by a little bridge, palm trees, sea breeze and that faintly nostalgic feeling of being taken for a hotel swim as a child. Add the extremely reliable Tajness of it all – someone bringing you cold coffee with ice cream, a club sandwich and fresh towels – to complete the summer vacation fantasy.

Time Out tip: There is one padel and one pickleball court at the hotel, run by 7Padel by MS Dhoni. Keep it in your back pocket for the days when every Bandra court on Hudle has been snapped up.

Price: ₹4,200 for adults and ₹1,650 for children, plus taxes. Includes use of pool, shower and steam.

Address: Byramji Jeejeebhoy Road, Bandstand, Bandra (West), Mumbai, Maharashtra 400050

Phone: +91 22-66681234

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Westin Mumbai Powai Lake

If you’re sensing a pattern where we keep sending you to the far ends of the city, then yes, we’re guilty. But there is a reward for the long drive – bigger pools, more breathing room and fewer elbows in your lane. It doesn’t get much better than the Westin’s generous fan-shaped layout, palms rising from the water and a wide view over Powai Lake that makes the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road everyone else’s problem for a few hours.

Time Out tip: Don’t rush out after your swim. Get brunch, coffee or a drink in the al fresco section at Lake View Café by the pool.

Price: ₹1,560 for adults and ₹778 for children, plus taxes, from Mon-Fri and ₹2,150 for adults and ₹1,062 for children, plus taxes, on Sat-Sun.
Address: 2 & 3B Near Chinmayanand Ashram, Powai, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400087
Phone: +91 22-66927777
Timings: Mon-Sun 7am-10pm.

JW Marriott Mumbai | Juhu

The pool makes full use of its beachside address with an infinity edge, stone columns, fountains and lion statues that give it a slightly kitschy Bollywood film-set vibe. Once you’re by the water, order something from the poolside bar, preferably something with a tiny umbrella if they’ll humour you and use the direct beach access when you want to feel sand between your toes after a swim.

Time Out tip: This is one of Juhu’s busiest hotels and the route to the pool usually involves walking past the lobby and all-day café full of meetings so bring your best swimsuit and a decent cover-up.

Price: ₹3,000 per person and ₹2,000 for children, plus taxes.

Address: Juhu Tara Road, Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400049

Phone: +91 22-66933000

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Bastian Beach Club | Juhu

New on the scene, the Beach Club at Sun-n-Sand is everything you expect from the Bastian group – big, glossy and completely committed to the Bali-by-way-of-Juhu Beach theme. There are fringed parasols, oversized round sun beds and some very lovely beach side tables for two. Food and cocktails are super fancy but the nice surprise is that the cover charge works against your bill. Pool access costs extra so read the booking details properly before turning up in your swimsuit.

Time Out tip: You get two-hour slots so book a quiet weekday afternoon if you can. Skip work, go early and you may get to linger longer than the clock technically allows.

Price: Two-hour slots at the Beach Club come with a cover charge of ₹3,000 per person Mon-Fri and ₹5,000 per person Sat-Sun. Pool access is an additional ₹2,000 per person. Reservations are a must and can be made on www.bastianhospitality.com/beach-club.

Address: 39, Sun-n-Sand Juhu Beach, Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400049

Phone: +91 98338 36192

Timings: Tue-Sun 12.30pm-1am. Closed Monday.

The St. Regis Mumbai | Lower Parel

This is a pool day for people who refuse to pick a lane. Swim a little, use the gym and then wander into Phoenix Palladium for a shopping mall detour. It works especially well on a weekday when Lower Parel is already on your route and a few hours by the pool feels far more sensible than dragging yourself across town for a full-on daycation.

Time Out tip: The Phoenix HSBC Racquet Club is the shiny new padel-and-pickleball venue at the mall if you want to make a sport-and-swim day of it.

Price: ₹5,000 per person, plus taxes, for a six-hour slot with access to the outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, steam, sauna and hot tub.

Address: 462, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400013

Phone: +91 22-61628000

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Fairmont Mumbai | Near Airport

Fairmont Mumbai is still new enough to feel like you’ve found it before everyone else. The pool has a resort-like scale and is perfect for an unhurried swim, with a whirlpool at one end. But the real pull is the hotel’s spa-and-longevity positioning. For an additional cost, Fairmont’s Blu Xone programme lets you try the Bryan Johnson lifestyle for an afternoon, with cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen sessions, intermittent hypoxic training and vacuum therapy.

Time Out tip: The pool deck can get windy and chilly so skip it when the rains arrive and save it for a sunny day.

Price: ₹5,000 per person, plus taxes, includes the use of the outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, steam and sauna.

Address: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Road, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400099

Phone: +91 8097555288

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Hotel Sea Princess | Juhu

Hotel Sea Princess is a Juhu classic for a reason, especially for families. It is also one of the better value propositions on this list if you’re looking beyond a one-off treat. The pool is right by the beach, the service is quick and friendly and the Sunday brunch with pool access is perfect if you have small kids who need to be tired out before bedtime.

Time Out tip: The hotel offers swimming lessons and an annual pool membership which is especially useful in Mumbai, where regular access to a decent pool is surprisingly hard to come by.

Price: ₹1,500 per person, inclusive of taxes. Sunday brunch with pool access at the 24/7 restaurant Jeon is priced at ₹2,700 for adults and ₹1,800 for children, inclusive of taxes.

Address: Juhu Tara Road, Juhu Beach, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400049

Phone: +91 22-69061111

Timings: Mon-Sun 8am-8pm.

ITC Grand Central | Parel

Most Mumbai hotel pools are made for blue skies. ITC Grand Central is the sensible exception – an indoor pool that works when it’s raining or when you simply don’t want to get tanned. It has a more old-world, city-hotel feel than the sunny, resort sprawls of the Juhu and airport pools but that is precisely the appeal.

Time Out tip: Ask about the annual pool-and-gym membership if you live or work nearby. This one’s more suited for a regular routine rather than a daycation daydream.

Price: ₹1,500 for adults and ₹750 for children, plus taxes.

Address: Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400012

Phone: +91 22-67045140

Timings: Mon-Sun 7.30am-9pm.

Bombay Swim Club at Iconiqa Hotel | Andheri

Bombay Swim Club is at the rooftop of Iconiqa, the new Art Deco-inspired airport hotel. The pool club is the baby of this list and, yes, also the one most obviously designed for a younger crowd. A ₹2,000 cover gets you access to the pool, daybeds, jacuzzi and runway views, with cocktails, small plates and healthy bowls on offer.

Time Out tip: Check their events calendar on Instagram. They host weekend parties and wellness classes like aqua sound healing and aqua pilates with cold plunges.

Price: ₹2,000 cover charge per person.

Address: Opposite Terminal 2, Navpada, Andheri East, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400099

Phone: +91 8655691535

Timings: Mon-Fri 4pm-12.30am. Sat-Sun 12pm-12am.

Grand Hyatt Mumbai Hotel & Residences

Grand Hyatt Mumbai has the benefit of space, which is not something to take lightly in Mumbai. There are lawns, broad pathways and the pool area is properly spread out rather than squeezed in as an afterthought. It is a good pick for a longer, slower swim day, especially if you live or work around Santacruz, BKC or Kalina and would rather float around than sit through a Western Express Highway jam.

Time Out tip: Ask about the Club Oasis membership if you want regular pool-and-gym access without joining a traditional club. They have annual plans that range from ₹1,90,000 for individuals, ₹2,80,000 for couples to ₹3,60,000 for a families with two adults and 2 children, plus taxes.

Price: From ₹2,000 per person, plus taxes, for a two-hour slot which includes the use of the outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, steam and sauna.

Address: Bandra Kurla Complex Vicinity, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400055

Phone: +91 22-66761144 / +91 22-66761146, reservations are recommended

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach

We are are biased towards Juhu hotel pools because, in Mumbai, sea views outside hotels are still oddly hard to come by. The pool works best when you want a simple swim with the sea in sight, followed by a sundowner at the hotel bar. It may not be as fashionable as it once was but we still have a soft spot for it.

Time Out tip: Check what is on at Gadda Da Vida before you go. The lounge bar has live music programming all week including karaoke on Wednesdays.

Price: ₹2,500 for adults and ₹2,000 for children, plus taxes. Sunday brunch with pool access from 12.30-4pm at The Square costs ₹4,500 with drinks and ₹3,000 without for adults and ₹1,449 for children, plus taxes.

Address: Balraj Sahani Marg, Juhu Beach, Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400049

Phone: +91 22-66934444

Timings: Mon-Sun 7am-9pm.

Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Palm Grove

The Ramada lobby is a full ’90s throwback, with cream marble, blonde wood and one too many water features on the way to the pool. It is big, clean and spacious enough to make you wonder why more people aren’t throwing pool parties here. You can hear the waves crashing on Juhu Beach from the deck and even on very humid days, the sea breeze helps. Because newer hotel pools now tend to be much shallower, the depth here feels like a proper bonus as it goes from 4ft to 6ft. There are multiple restaurants and bars on site too and the upside of a place stuck in time is that the prices feel a little behind the times as well.

Time Out tip: The showers and changing rooms by the pool are also old-school and carrying your own towel wouldn’t hurt.

Price: ₹1,050 for adults and ₹700 for children, plus taxes.

Address: Juhu Beach, Juhu Tara Rd, next to Shivaji Maharaj Statue, Nazir Wadi, Theosophical Housing Colony, Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400049

Phone: +91 22-67371600

Timings: Mon-Sun 7am-7.30pm.

Taj Santacruz

You know that airport feeling when you desperately need a shower, a nap and someone to hand you a cold towel without asking too many questions? Taj Santacruz is the hack for that. Right by Mumbai’s domestic terminal T1, its pool day pass gives you a dignified and comfortable excuse to reset before a late flight, after an early landing or between two exhausting legs of travel.

Time Out tip: Better than an airport lounge if you have a few hours to kill before check-in. Oh and, there’s no reservations needed; walk-ins are encouraged.

Price: From ₹2,200 per person, plus taxes, for a two-house slot which includes the use of the outdoor swimming pool, steam, sauna, shower and changing facilities.

Address: Domestic Terminal, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Off Western Express Highway, Santacruz (East) Mumbai, Maharashtra 400099

Phone: +91 22-62115211

Timings: Mon-Sun 6am-10pm.

Westin Mumbai Garden City

This is one of the bigger hotel pool set-ups in this part of the city, which helps after you’ve crawled through Western Express Highway traffic. There’s a large outdoor pool, a separate kiddie pool and, crucially, a water slide, so children get their own corner and everyone’s happy.

Time Out tip: Oberoi Mall is right next door so this works well as a weekend plan – swim first, then shop, eat or catch a movie before getting back home.

Price: ₹1,500 for adults and ₹1,000 for children, plus taxes, includes the use of the outdoor swimming pool, steam and changing rooms at the spa.

Address: International Business Park, Oberoi Garden City, Goregaon East, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400063

Phone: +91 22-61470000

Timings: Mon-Sun 7am-10pm.

Taj The Trees | Vikhroli

Taj The Trees is still somehow under the radar, which is strange because this is a full-scale, proper Taj with all the trimmings. The Vikhroli setting is greener with manicured garden alcoves tucked around the property as well as the pool. The best part is Shamiana, our forever favourite all day restaurant from The Taj Mahal Palace, is here too and opens right out by the pool.

Time Out tip: Ask about the J Wellness Circle’s annual memberships, it includes access to the gym, swimming pool and wellness facilities, with individual memberships starting at ₹2,50,000 plus taxes.

Price: ₹5,000 per person, plus taxes, includes the use of the outdoor swimming pool, steam, sauna, hot tub and changing rooms at the J Wellness Circle.

Address: Pirojshanagar, Off. Eastern Express Highway, Vikhroli (East), Mumbai, Maharashtra 400079

Phone: +91 22-69800000

Timings: Mon-Sun 7am-10pm.
