The best running, cycling, and climbing clubs in Mumbai

Allow us to further contribute to the ‘fitness is fun’ propaganda in the city that never sleeps

It’s official: contrary to popular belief, Gen-Z is actually the least degenerate of the lot, we’re ditching the bender weekends for run clubs. Or so say statistics. Chalk it up to the economy, a lack of third spaces in a digital world, or skinny-tok fuelling a wellness obsessed culture – daaru is out and fitness is in. As much as I personally am a proponent of a less-than-healthy weekly wine night, I also get the hype around outdoor community spaces and clubs. It’s nice to have a space offline to connect with others without excessive liver and bank account damage.

Things like run clubs, padel, and bouldering have exploded in popularity in the city and it’s easy to see why. It's a low barrier to entry, open to all, and a way to make something as challenging as sticking to an exercise routine highly social and enjoyable. So here are my recommendations for the best outdoor communities and clubs in Mumbai for you to join in on the fun. No more fitness FOMO, Gen-Z or not!

Looking for more of a solo experience? Try out the best parks in Mumbai. And if you haven’t convinced yourself into a fitness journey yet, a wonderful way to start in the city is a walking tour for history lessons.

The best running, cycling, and climbing clubs in Mumbai

Pudhe Chala

What is it: A popular run club hosting a multitude of regular Sunday runs, Hyrox training sessions, special events, and more. It's beginner friendly, free to join and guaranteed fun.

Why we love it: Pudhe Chala really does guide you through it. The run club feels intentional, with stretches, pep talks, and yoga sessions. There’s a real community feel to it, which comes with the claim of being Bombay’s biggest run club. Oh, and of course, there is always allocated time for post-run shenanigans.  Think less ‘sweat it out alone’ and more ‘everyone's coming with you.’ You leave with a brunch plan and a mild sense of superiority about your Sunday.

How to join: Join the WhatsApp community group via their Instagram @pudhechala.runclub.

Bombay On Foot

What is it: Undoubtedly the most innovative run club in the city right now, Bombay On Foot loves treating their runners to some much needed caffeine, often collaborating with cafes like Kink Coffee or Bastian.

Why we love it: The creativity that goes into their events. They recently hosted an Ammakai X Bombay On Foot rave and even gave single runners an opportunity to mingle on Valentine's Day. Consider it proof that a run club can have a personality, and a good one at that. Also: coffee’s good. If your fitness goals are 30% cardio and 70% social life, this is your people.

How to join: Via their Instagram @bombayonfoot.

The Indian Bouldering Company

What is it: ‘Got nothing to do? Come climb a wall’ is literally this bouldering club’s motto, plastered proudly on the website.

Why we love it: Four sections to choose from, rental equipment available, showers and lockers and a ton of exciting events. Bouldering is part puzzle, part workout. It’s perfect for anyone who gets bored on a treadmill in about four minutes…or half a minute.

Timings: Mon-Fri: 7am-10.30pm, Sat-Sun: 10am-9pm.

Price: Day passes at ₹1,700 onwards. Memberships at ₹15,000 onwards.

Address: 3rd Floor, Shreeniwas House, 27, Hazarimal Somani Rd, Azad Maidan, Fort, Mumbai 400001

How to join: +91 720 875 8422, info@theindianbouldering.com or tibc.co.in

On Tour Run Club

What is it: If your ideal morning run prerequisite is the absence of hypermasculine gym bros, On Tour is the one for you.

Why we love it: You've got a female founder, a Women's Day run, girls only strength training sessions and much more. The club has collaborated with brands like Nike to create a space combining movement and music. They even have a banging pacemakers playlist on SoundCloud. While they’re on the more expensive side, their calendars are stacked and extremely cool.

How to join: Tickets to sessions and events can be found on District or via Instagram @ontourclub.

Mumbai Midnight Cycling

What is it: The hugely popular midnight cycling tour of the city starts at 11pm in Colaba, ending with 4am refreshments at Haji Ali Juice Centre.

Why we love it: It’s perhaps the most unique Mumbai darshan, and it’s been around forever. Fellow Mumbaikars, I’m sure you’ve seen a group of overzealous bikers around South Bombay while you’re headed to the club, or late night ice cream. Apt for the city that never sleeps. Empty roads, sleeping buildings, a sea breeze. What more do you need? Bonus: you've earned every sip of that 4am juice and it will feel like ambrosia.

How to join: Tickets on BookMyShow or District.

Timings: Fridays & Saturdays, 11pm-4am.

Price: ₹250 onwards.

High Rock

What is it: Mumbai's largest semi-indoor bouldering arena in Powai.

Why we love it: There's a ton of organised diverse bouldering groups to choose from – kids' summer camps, corporate team building workshops (for real), birthday parties and more. Not to mention, the VIEW. It's one of the few fitness spaces that works for a family outing as easily as a solo session.

Price: Mon-Fri: 2pm-10pm, Sat-Sun: 9am-10pm. Day passes ₹1,490 onwards.

Address: S4, A-Wing, Supreme Business Park, Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, Mumbai 400076
