The world is full of truly wondrous sites. If it’s stunning natural landscapes that make your jaw drop, the likes of Mount Fuji, Lake Baikal, and Victoria Falls probably spring to mind. More into man-made stuff? Well, there’s the Eiffel Tower, Machu Picchu, Sagrada Familia... the list goes on.

But which landmarks do we all like (or at least look up) the most? Travel insurance provider AllClear has the answer. They’ve based their findings off the number of page views each landmark received on Wikipedia, and put it all together in this map.

They’ve also compiled the world’s most looked-up landmarks to make a top seven list, which they’re boldly claiming to be the New Seven World Wonders.

Across the world, the landmark which is most researched on Wikipedia is India’s incredible Taj Mahal. Created in the seventeenth century, the palace is widely considered the greatest piece of Indo-Islamic architecture to have ever been built, and it accrued more than 28 million page views.

The second most popular is the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in the UAE. With over 23 million page views, according to AllClear, this skyscraper in Dubai towers over the rest of the world’s skyscrapers when it comes to Wikipedia look-ups.

In third place, it’s Mount Everest. The world’s highest mountain (above sea level) sits on the China-Nepal border, and is climbed by around 800 people annually. Its Wikipedia page was viewed 22 million times.

The Statue of Liberty in the US, with 19 million views, and the Great Wall of China with 17 million, make up the rest of the top five. Here are all the most popular landmarks in the world, illustrated by each continent.
