About Jernigan:
It’s well-known that most people settle down as they age, get real jobs, or have families. Reckless, unabashedly youthful abandon usually gives way to quieter, more nuanced introspection and a distanced nostalgia for times long gone. Punk rock is no different. Nevermind that no one wants to hear loud songs in which dudes yell about mortgage payments or changing diapers anyway. It’s just a natural point of one’s life, one full of peaks and valleys, changes, successes, and failures.
Jernigan are a new band from Orlando, FL, full of older dudes who were in a few other bands you may or may not have heard. They’re unconcerned with credentials; rather, their concern is driving, fully realized punk rock with tight hooks, immediately soaring melodies and an energetic aesthetic that defies trends and even better, defies the notion that getting older means it’s time to slow down, quiet down or cease innovating altogether. Their self-recorded, self-released debut My Minor Arcana is a testament to evolving, but never adjourning punk ideals, to the idea that great songs can rise above any necessary recording or promotion limitations, and to the thought that we don’t necessarily stop caring because we get older, we get older because we stop caring.
