Modern Japanese painting is the focus at this reasonably sized private art museum next to Hamadera Park, opened in 2016. Its collection of around 400 pieces includes works by 39 painters, including Nihonga greats Taikan Yokoyama, Seiho Takeuchi and Shoen Uemura as well as Western-inspired masters such as Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita and Ryohei Koiso.
Themed special exhibitions and seasonal displays are held four times a year. After checking out the collections, take a break over coffee and sweets at the museum café, which overlooks a Japanese garden. Collectors may be interested in the in-house Hagoromo Gallery.
