Time Out says

Tucked behind a mysterious dark green door at the Waldorf Astoria Osaka, Canes & Tales is a destination cocktail bar that feels like a portal to the glamorous Jazz Age. In contrast to the hotel’s bright, airy public spaces, this intimate hideaway channels the sophistication of 1930s speakeasies, complete with moody lighting, emerald hues and a sense that you’ve stumbled upon a well-kept secret.

The cocktail menu, led by director of mixology Dominic Dijkstra alongside bar manager Masahiko Ohama and bar supervisor Shimba Ishikawa, takes its cues from F Scott Fitzgerald’s Tales of the Jazz Age. Each drink reimagines one of the book’s short stories, blending iconic tales with decadent flavours. Some of the drinks you’ll come across include the refreshing May Day, featuring Ki No Bi Dry Gin, vermouth, strawberry and shiso shrub, and fresh matcha foam, or the potent Mr Icky, shaken up with The SG Shochu Mugi, Campari, truffle honey, and Japanese sansho and shiso bitters.

Bar bites pair premium Japanese ingredients with New York-inspired classics like lobster rolls with caviar, wagyu beef cutlet brioche sandwiches and Reuben sliders, plus a luxe caviar menu for those looking to splurge. Designed by Andre Fu, the interiors of the bar evoke a whimsical vintage boudoir, featuring a rich marble bar, hand-painted tiles, velvet lamps and retro furnishings, plus an outdoor terrace overlooking Osaka’s skyline.
