Time Out says

Built at the initiative of conductor Takashi Asahina, the Symphony Hall is Japan’s first concert hall designed specifically for classical music. With no orchestra pit or movable stage, which are commonplace in multipurpose halls, it’s reputed to have some of the best acoustics in the country, once praised by the renowned Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan. Seating is laid out so that the stage is fully visible from every seat in the hall, and the interior is topped off by a handsome pipe organ that towers over the stage.
