The city of Kishiwada is the hometown of the three sisters and fashion designers Hiroko, Michiko and Junko Koshino. In 2019, their childhood home was renovated and turned into a restaurant named after their mother, Ayako Koshino.
Ayako Shokudo serves up traditional teishoku set meals, consisting of a main dish such as salt-grilled salmon or hamburg steak, and three small sides – think simmered sardines, tamagoyaki omelette, nikujaga meat and potato stew or boiled spinach in bonito-flavoured soy sauce. Alternatively, you can opt for various curries or get a bento (boxed lunch) to go. The menu is changed up daily, so there’s always something new to look forward to.
After your meal, check out the little gallery upstairs. Open only to restaurant customers, it exhibits old photos and a few items passed down in the family, including a sewing machine and an abacus.
