No visit to Japan is complete without a stop at Uniqlo. The homegrown mega-retailer is a global fashion staple, with stores in major cities around the world, but shopping at Uniqlo in its country of origin is a completely different experience.

If you’re visiting Osaka, make sure to stop by the brand’s newest global flagship, Uniqlo Umeda, which officially opened on Friday October 24. Spanning two floors, this massive store is your one-stop shop for both fashion and souvenirs. From discovering city-exclusive merchandise and customisation services to exploring Uniqlo’s sister brands, here’s why Uniqlo Umeda deserves a spot on your shopping list.

Shop the largest Uniqlo in Osaka

Following its grand October opening, Uniqlo Umeda is now the largest Uniqlo in both Osaka and all of western Japan. The humongous store, an expansion of what was previously Uniqlo’s Links Umeda outlet, spans two levels and approximately 4,300 square metres of retail space, offering a relaxed and comfortable shopping experience.

Located in the bustling Umeda district, the store is easily accessible, right in the heart of Osaka’s commercial and cultural centre and just steps from Osaka and Umeda stations.

Find exclusive Osaka merchandise

While you can of course shop all of Uniqlo’s staples at this new outpost, it’s also worth visiting for exclusive merchandise available only at the Umeda store. Highlights include an UTme! collection of T-shirts and tote bags (from ¥1,990) made in collaboration with seven iconic companies representative of Osaka. Some of the fun prints include Iko-chan the Platypus (the mascot character of JR West’s Icoca transport card), adorable panda and cheese designs from Umeda Cheese Lab, and train motifs from Hankyu Railway.

Uniqlo Umeda also features a RE.Uniqlo Studio zone, where you can repair and personalise items with custom embroidery.

Visualise the city through fashion

Looking for some fashion inspo? Check out the store’s mannequins, styled in outfits inspired by different neighbourhoods around Osaka – a playful way to see the city through a fashion lens.

Staying warm is also made stylish at Uniqlo Umeda, where you can shop special autumn-winter pieces previously released only in Europe, now available in Japan exclusively at this flagship. The store also carries Uniqlo’s popular Puff Tech Parka in two store-exclusive colours – green and wine – perfect for the chilly months.

Discover more than just Uniqlo

Despite the moniker, Uniqlo isn’t the only brand at this megastore. The flagship also features outposts of parent company Fast Retailing Group’s other popular labels, including PLST, Comptoir des Cotonniers and Princesse Tam Tam.

PLST is known for its classic, everyday pieces that look sharp and polished. The Umeda outpost offers a selection from the collection, including special items from the online store. Comptoir des Cotonniers, an affordable luxury label founded in France, is renowned for its luxe materials and simple designs that feel straight off the streets of Paris. Princesse Tam Tam, a French lingerie brand, combines comfort with stylish designs in fun prints and vibrant colours.

Explore more of Osaka with the Discover Umeda Map

While you’re at the flagship store, don’t forget to pick up a free copy of the Discover Umeda Map, a bilingual (Japanese and English) guide showcasing the charms of the Umeda district.

The map highlights eight key areas around Umeda – Umekita, Osaka Station, Chayamachi, Nakazakicho, Ohatsutenjin, Kitashinchi, Diamond and Nishi-Umeda – and points out the best spots to eat, drink and have fun around the neighbourhood.
