In Senshu, the southern coastal region of Osaka prefecture, yagura is the local term for the floats that define many of the area’s traditional festivals. As part of this culturally rich region, Hannan City naturally embraces this vibrant tradition.
Each yagura float is a handcrafted masterpiece, built from wood and adorned with ornate carvings, colourful paintings and textiles, and glowing lanterns. Every local district has its own float, each with a unique design that reflects the identity of its community.
On the evening of Sunday October 5, 20 yagura floats will gather in front of Hannan City Hall, forming a breathtaking display of craftsmanship and community spirit. Following the opening ceremony, the floats will set off in various directions as they parade through the city.
The yagura are pulled by teams of energetic participants, led by spirited calls from the float leaders and accompanied by rhythmic drumming and powerful chants. Don’t miss this lively, joyful atmosphere.
