What is it? Upscale Italian that doesn’t veer far from tradition.

Why go? For a fine dining experience and comfortingly classic Italian flavours. Housed in the very swanky COMO The Treasury hotel, Post Osteria and Bar is a luxe option for a meal out. Despite this, the menu reads as a list of comfort dishes, proving fine dining and wholesome dishes aren’t mutually exclusive. The menu is all about high-quality produce and flavours with mass appeal, and takes cues from all over Italy, from Roman-style amatriciana to Milanese cotoletta. The wine list, fittingly, combines great drops from both Australia and Italy.

What is it? Southern Italian-inspired cuisine in a casual wine bar setting.

Why go? A sizeable antipasti menu offers a perfect way to experience thoughtful flavour pairings and enjoy the social experience of share-style eating. You can’t go wrong with a selection for the table, with burrata and beetroot sharing menu space with heirloom tomato salad and hazelnut pistachio. Fresh pasta is also on offer and the menu leans towards southern Italian specialties, so expect fresh flavour and plenty of seafood. The fit-out is fun and funky, a new take on the eclectic and colourful restaurants found in Italy’s populous coastal towns.

7. Vin Populi

What is it? A breezy enoteca that has quickly become one of Perth’s most exciting Italian dining rooms.

Why go? A sibling venue to No Mafia, Vin Populi captures that coastal Italian vibe with mosaic floors, plaster walls and ceilings that make the space feel both grand and unpretentious. The blackboard menu is ever-changing and leans into whatever’s fresh and seasonal, but handmade pastas are the stars, like the tagliatelle laced with meltingly tender osso buco. Round things out with salumi, antipasti and a few snacks, then dive into the extensive wine list that champions both Italian varietals and small-batch Aussie makers. Whether you’re here for a long lunch that stretches into the evening or just a glass and a quick bite, it's worth a visit.

What is it? Upscale Italian in an inner city location.

Why go? Embodying Italian cooking traditions that put great produce front and centre, Lalla Rookh is one of the more authentic options for Italian food around Perth. Descending a staircase into the restaurant’s lounge, you’re immediately taken by the sense of intimacy the space inspires. The menu reaches beyond a list of tried and true pasta options, but the gnocchi is a standout, and the dumplings are consistently light, no matter the seasonal sauce accompanying them.

9. La Madonna Nera

What is it? A refined little Italian wine bar that blends old-world charm with a clever, contemporary menu.

Why go? Led by by WA hospitality pros Emma Ferguson, Dan Morris and head chef Nicolò Renzi, the space hums with a warm, communal energy that’s perfect for lingering over shared plates and bottles of natural wine. The menu changes often to highlight what’s in season, but think along the lines of fluffy ricotta with honey and Aleppo pepper, Wagyu carpaccio, or rustic pappardelle tossed with slow-braised goat ragu and pine nuts. It’s the kind of intimate spot that rewards repeat visits, because there’s always something new (and delicious) on offer.

10. Threecoins and Sons

What is it? A family-run, homestyle restaurant in Mount Lawley with traditional touches.

Why go? This Italian joint carries forward the soul of its predecessor, Threecoins Italian Trattoria, with a refreshed identity and a touch more modern flair. Still family-run and proudly rooted in Roman tradition, the kitchen turns out comforting, homestyle plates that feel both nostalgic and new. Expect crisp fritto misto and creamy arancini to start, followed by house-made tagliatelle tossed through slow-simmered ragù, or their pinsa romana—a lighter, airier cousin to pizza that’s fast becoming a local obsession. The atmosphere is relaxed and warmly inviting, the kind of place you’d bring family for Sunday dinner or a crew of mates for an easy weeknight feast.

What is it? Classic Italian in a contemporary setting, with an artfully curated wine list.

Why go? From its thoughtful wine list to its chic and minimalist interiors, Nolita invites an upmarket crowd looking for comforting classics. However incongruous, the combination of contemporary and classic is working here. The menu doesn’t try to reinvent the cuisine, but sticks close to authentic recipes, with a little added finesse. The pasta is housemade, as it should be, and coated in slick sugo or tossed with Mediterranean vegetables and seafood. A short list of off-the-grill options, like bistecca or market fish, will appease those looking for a heartier dish.
