Mark Oliver Everett, A.K.A. E., has been on the grassy knoll of the music scene for a long time, putting out music just on the edge of public consciousness, from those early cassettes to “Novocain For the Soul” to the Jinx theme song to his surprise walk-ons in Judd Apatow productions. Eels fans know the score, of course. The new record is called The Deconstruction and it’s another killer collection of mood-swinging indie rock defined by E.’s restless songwriting and Beck-ish voice.
