Join us for a very special Milonga Qilombo this month. The night starts at 8 pm with a 30-minute concert by violinist Andrew Yang, who uses an electric violin to create looping, musical soundscapes, with influences from the American folk tradition and minimal music. Later in the night, Andrew will be playing live cortinas (the music in between sets of tango). We continue with an all-levels tango class (beginners welcome!) at 8:30 pm (taught by Andres & Meredith), and then from 9:30 pm to 2 am, we’ll enjoy music by phenomenal DJ Manuk Colakyan. Andres & Meredith will perform around 11:30 pm.
SCHEDULE:
8-8:30 pm: Concert by Electric Violinist Andrew Yang
8:30-9:30 pm: All-Levels Tango Class taught by Andres Amarilla & Meredith Klein
9:30 pm-2 am: Milonga Qilombo** with DJ Manuk Colakyan, live cortinas by Andrew Yang, and featuring a performance by Andres Amarilla & Meredith Klein around 11:30 pm
Location: Ruba Club Studios, 416 Green St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
Cost:
Milonga Only - $15 (F/T students $12)
Milonga + Class - $20
** Qilombo is an intentional mis-spelling of the Argentine Spanish word quilombo, which is slang for "a big mess," or a "wild party."
