Time Out says

Discussion Group: Open Invitation to Artists and their Friends This event is organized by Jacob Russell & Liz Krick We encourage everyone who considers themselves a part of the artist community to attend the event. In addition to creating a discussion group this is an attempt to strength the unity within our art community. In light of the rapid gentrification and vulture capitalism that has ascended upon our city it is imperative that we create unity with in the artists community. It is our belief that as a whole we can renegotiate the system that has traditionally dictated the art world. This is an opportunity for us to create alternatives not only for artist's but those who seek knowledge of the arts. Please feel free to bring with you your projects and ideas that you would like to share with the group. Liz Krick will also be discussing an ongoing online video series she has been working on that feature local artists. We will be looking for people who would like to work on and contribute to the project. We seek diversity in the creation the project as it is ultimately an attempt to distribute knowledge and educate the public on the artists working in their community. Jacob Russell will be presenting this tentative agenda in regard to an ongoing discussion group: Art Beyond Capitalism: Distribution and Support for Artists Outside the System Consensus for discussion on items below Consensus for facilitator Consensus for note taker A group discussion to explore the place of artists in our commodity-investment driven economy Introductions: Tell us your experience with galleries, selling, finding support for your work. For discussion: What questions or ideas would you like to add to the list below? Define what ‘success would mean for you? Do you believe the best art/artists will always rise to the top? Why? why not? For women, and POC. what has been your experience with the present marketing system? Is there any alternative to the Gallery-to-Investor pipeline? Individual versus collective alternatives Do we want to meet again to continue this discussion?
