Thur Oct. 15, 7-8:30pm: "Floor Score for Messiaen" performed by Michael Pestel, Ben Opie + Alberto Almarza’s flute students
3rd floor Miller Gallery at CMU

Floor Score for Messiaen is a bird-inspired performance work based on Olivier Messiaen’s Catalogue d’Oiseaux for solo piano (1956-58). The original score is here radically reimagined as a spatial performance with anywhere between seven and seventy-seven flutists. The exact makeup of the ensemble will depend on the availability of musicians, the range of instruments available (piccolo to sub-contrabass), and on the size and shape of the performance space.
