Wed. Oct. 7, 7pm: The Virginia New Music Ensemble presents "Null Set." 3rd floor Miller Gallery, CMU.

Tightrope walking the fine line between graphic art and music notation, between improvisation and composition, and from concept to creation, Null Set is an untethered experiment in how music is made. Join the Virginia New Music Ensemble in harnessing lungs, laptops, and instruments in between, to ask what music might mean in the 21st Century.

About the Musicians

The Virginia New Music Ensemble seeks to allow performers and audiences alike to explore some of the best music by contemporary and recent composers. The style of music ranges from the classics of High Modernism to the eclectic and energetic works of Postmodernism. Encompassing the full range and variety of contemporary concert music, from acoustic to electronic to the uncategorizable, one will discover music that can be serious, often sublime and sometimes even silly. A forum for all that is fresh and daring in today’s music, the Virginia New Music Ensemble offers a variety of riches for the inquisitive ear.

Special thanks to the University of Virginia's McIntire Department of Music and Composition and Computer Technologies PhD program, CMU School of Music, Miller Gallery, and NOISE: Toward a Critical Theory of Sound and Hearing seminar in the School of Art for their support.
