Resonance Works closes its third season with Mahler's epic Song of the Earth (Das Lied von der Erde) in the Schoenberg / Riehn version for chamber orchestra. Described by Leonard Bernstein as Mahler’s “greatest symphony,” this song cycle for two soloists and orchestra sets seven of the texts from Hans Bethge's Die chinesische Flöte, a volume of ancient Chinese poetry rendered into German. Opening the program will be Schoenberg’s own Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) in the original version for string sextet. Inspired by Richard Dehmel’s poem of the same name and his strong feelings upon meeting his future wife, Verklärte Nacht is regarded as Schoenberg's earliest important work.

These performances are an exciting collaboration with Texture Contemporary Ballet, rising stars in the world of dance. Texture's founder and co-artistic director Alan Obuzor was named one of Dance Magazine's top 25 dancers to watch in 2013. Brooke Larimer, mezzo-soprano (Macbeth) makes her return to Resonance Works for these performances, alongside tenor Robert Frankenberry (Amahl, Rorem).
