Italy’s post-World War II composers provide an enticing aural accompaniment to the glamorous visual narrative of Italian Style: Fashion Since 1945, drawing upon an emerging avant-garde musical language to create works of great originality. Third Angle’s third collaboration with the Portland Art Museum, “Made in Italy,” traces the evolution of modern Italian classical music, from the Baroque-inspired music of Luigi Dallapiccola in the 1940s to the current groundbreaking work of Salvatore Sciarrino, as well as masterpieces by Luigi Nono and Luciano Berio. It’s another side of the postwar modern Italian culture story. Called “one of Oregon’s most future-focused institutions” by Brett Campbell of Oregon Arts Watch, Third Angle is the Northwest’s foremost presenter of contemporary American music. A Third Angle performance is anything but ordinary.
