Narratives, Bodies And Power: A Literary Roundtable says
Join professors from Portland State University’s English Department for a discussion of Evicted from a literary critical perspective.

How can the habits of attention that we have developed as readers of literature (including fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction) allow us to read Desmond’s sociological narrative in new and perhaps unexpected ways?

How can ideas that emerge in critical theory and cultural studies help us to raise (and begin to answer) important questions about the relationship between power and bodies, between politics and discourse, between community and vulnerability?

How do the stories that we tell about ourselves and others – and the terms in which we tell them – shape not only our lived experience but also the way that policy and social change unfold?

These questions and others will animate what promises to be a lively conversation.

Join us for Everybody Reads, Multnomah County Library’s annual community reading project.
