OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon says
OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon has been on the front lines of Portland's movement for environmental and social justice since our inception in 2005. We fight for greater self-determination within our most impacted communities. We have built a powerful and inclusive movement at the intersection of transportation, housing and health, lifting up the voices of people of color, low-income residents, women, immigrants, people with disabilities, youth and seniors to speak for themselves and make change.

Voices from the Movement: a People’s History of Environmental Justice in Portland will feature old guard and new guard organizers, those who helped build our local movement and those who are now carrying it forward, to tell the story of our movement in two acts. The first act will include selections from Howard Zinn’s monumental book “A People’s History of the United States”. The second act will include personal stories of organizers and their connection to the environmental and social justice movement here in Portland and beyond.

This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment to hear the story of Portland’s movements being told live, on stage, by the pioneers and change makers themselves. We are going to pack the house on July 21st with individuals and organizations have been involved in shaping our local movement, and are ready to take on the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.
