Wanderlust Social With John Bennett, Faeble Kievman, And The Wanderlust Circus Orchestra says
There's a very special show happening once a month at Dante's - a gathering of circus artists and old-school jazz musicians without equal in the Pacific Northwest; and you're invited!

The Wanderlust Social lives on, at least for the moment; so please join us next Wednesday, April 8th! We are honored to welcome our esteemed musical guest, true-school ragtime piano maestro John Bennet of Pink Lady & John Bennett Jazz Band. And rounding out our show with a rare and exotic vase juggling routine, the traveling acrobat clown Faeble Kievman of Cirque En Deroute.

All this, and the mighty 10-piece Wanderlust Circus Orchestra throwing down two full sets of the finest big band bohemian swing this side of 1940.

And all for the low, low price of $10! It's a hell of a deal, you're a hell of a crowd, and we're dancing together through one HELL of a year. Let's make it a good one!

DOORS at 8
SHOW 9pm - Midnight

It's not true that John Bennett must have been born atop a piano bench. It only appears that way to those who attempt to track him from one Steinway to another. Perhaps 'joined at the hip' is the better phrase. Mr. Bennett's level of musical activity has not dimished despite his advanced years (now closing in on 80). Compare his keyboard recordings of 3o years ago to a present performance; there are no discernible differences aside from the occasional flourishes he enjoys experimenting with. John admits to having a weakness for tinkering, sometimes merging the melody line of one song with another, while retaining the recognizable identity of each. A 'twofer', as it were.

The Wanderlust Circus Orchestra is the house band for Portland's proudest bohemian brigade, Wanderlust Circus. Their music crashes and reels like a calliope freight train off the rails, weaving miraculous feats of skill through the extravagant orchestral warp of our live novelty band. Featuring members of 3 Leg Torso, Vagabond Opera, Chervona, and The Shanghai Woolies! Tap-dancing sax king Shoehorn is featured alongside saucy songbird Anna Leander and frenetic frontman William Batty, sweating and sighing through standards and originals like Danny Elfman arranging Count Basie; while the finest acrobats, aerialists, and vaudevillian virtuosi in the Pacific Wheel Circuit show off their explosive best.
