Pretoria, the weekend is bringing a mix of live music, theatre, food festivals and outdoor activities, with events taking place across the city and beyond. From a wine festival in Tierpoort and a vintage-inspired gathering in Mamelodi to live performances, art and a Springboks watch party in Centurion, there are different ways to spend your days off. Here’s what’s happening around Pretoria this weekend.
Rain is forecast for Pretoria on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures reaching highs of 33°C. There is still good reason to get out and enjoy the weekend, from catching a live performance and exploring the city's arts scene to meeting friends for a festival. Sunday brings sunnier skies, with temperatures starting at a cooler 12°C, offering a pleasant end to the weekend.

Soshanguve is getting an active start to Saturday with the SOTOA/SSTA Family Fun Day at Phillip Stadium. The event centres on a 5km walk, bringing residents together for a day that combines fitness, community participation and entertainment. Bigballer is among the featured performers, with more acts also on the programme. Organised by SOTOA and SSTA, the gathering gives residents a chance to take part in the walk before enjoying the day's activities.
Oktoberfest is making its way to Pretoria, and Wondermil Smokehouse is giving the German beer festival its own twist. Set beneath the venue's iconic DC-6 aircraft, the celebration brings together German-inspired food, beer and live Oompah music from the Sousaphonics. There will also be German military vehicle rides, a chance to explore the museum's collection and a game of Hammerschlagen, where you can put your hammering skills to the test. Dress up in your lederhosen or dirndl, round up your friends and settle in for a day of Bavarian-inspired fun.
Looking for something a little more reflective than the usual Friday night plans? Only In Sleep, presented by Symphonia 21, brings together young South African singers for a choral performance centred on dreams, hope, faith and the future. The programme explores questions around conflict, division and the possibility of a more connected society. Taking place at Nazareth House Chapel in Waterkloof, it's a chance to hear a talented young ensemble bring these themes to life.
Wine lovers, this one's worth adding to your weekend plans. Festive Fijnwyn takes over Shokran Events Venue in Tierpoort, bringing together more than 35 South African wine farms for an afternoon of tastings. From crisp whites and refreshing rosés to full-bodied reds and sparkling wines, there's something to suit different palates. Five bands will perform throughout the day, while food stalls and lifestyle vendors give you more to explore between tastings. It's a good opportunity to discover local wine producers, try a few new favourites and catch up with friends over a glass or two. Just make sure you've arranged a safe ride home. Please note that children under the age of 18 will not be permitted to partake in wine tasting.
Brunch plans are getting a dancefloor upgrade with The Brunch Jol, a women-only daytime party at The Social Grill in Pretorius Park. Organised by The Local Jol, the event features a live DJ playing sing-along hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s. Think old-school R&B, pop favourites and those songs you still know every word to, even years later. There'll be a brunch menu, food and drinks specials, plus a cash bar serving bubbly, mimosas and cocktails. It's a Saturday outing for anyone who prefers their brunch with a side of nostalgia and a reason to get up and dance.
Mamelodi has a musical identity that runs deep. Its name is often translated as 'Mother of Melodies', and the township has a long association with jazz, having produced respected musicians such as Dr Philip Tabane and Vusi Mahlasela. Mpho Soulbliss Sessions taps into that local appreciation for music with its Summer Yellow Sunshine Edition at Ko-Legiza. Koki Molf, Joey Mekoa and Thabiso Mogane are among the featured performers, bringing local talent into the spotlight. The gathering adds another chapter to Mamelodi's music story, with township artists and music lovers coming together in a place where music has long been part of the culture.
Kofifi, the name synonymous with Sophiatown's golden era of music, style and culture, provides the inspiration for this Mamelodi gathering. Kofifi Vintage Gabo Ghauli puts the spotlight on the featured performer, with DJs also on the programme to bring a mix of nostalgic sounds and contemporary music to 4 Tshehla Street. The event is a nod to an era when music and personal style went hand in hand, making it a good occasion to revisit some old-school influences while discovering what the organisers have planned for the day.
Take a trip through the romance of French music with Anna Davel's Boulevard of Dreams at the Fairtree Atterbury Theatre. The singer revisits classics made famous by Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour and Michel Legrand, including favourites such as La Vie en Rose and Non, je ne regrette rien. Accompanied by pianist Marcel Dednam and saxophonist Deryn Dednam, Davel brings a collection of French café classics to the stage, making this a lovely Sunday outing for anyone with a soft spot for timeless songs and a little Parisian nostalgia.
Sundowns are back on home turf for a shot at another continental trophy as they take on Algeria's USM Alger in the CAF Super Cup final at Loftus Versfeld. The Brazilians will be looking to make home advantage count, while USM Alger arrive with their own ambitions after winning the CAF Confederation Cup. With the two continental champions going head-to-head, Pretoria gets a taste of top level African club football, and Sundowns supporters have a chance to get behind their team as they chase another piece of silverware.
The SN Project is bringing its Pantomime Tour to Pretoria, with Siphephelo Ndlovu taking to the stage at Unisa's Dr Miriam Makeba Concert Hall. The project brings together neo-soul, jazz and African rhythms, with Ndlovu drawing on his own musical influences to create a sound that moves between soulful vocals, electronic elements and improvisation. The Pretoria show is the final stop on the tour, making it an opportunity to catch the South African artist as he wraps up this run of performances. If neo-soul with an African influence is your kind of thing, this one is worth checking out.
TeeJay Mr Trapstar is bringing his Pitori hip-hop selection to Brew & Byte in Pretoria Central. The Tshwane FM presenter has been documenting the capital's rap scene through his live mixes, including Pitori Hip Hop New Wave, which features a new generation of artists such as Loatinover Pounds, Mochen and G-Tech. His work also revisits the city's hip-hop legacy, connecting established sounds with newer voices. The Brew & Byte session puts a local DJ with a clear interest in Pretoria's rap culture in the spotlight.
Forget the quiet museum visit for a moment. The Kulture Factory is taking over the Ditsong National Museum of Cultural History with Art in Motion, a showcase that brings together artists working across music, dance, theatre and visual art. Thabiso Thabethe, Magatsela More and Fore Fathers Ensemble are among the names on the programme, with storytelling also forming part of the mix. It's a chance to see different sides of Pretoria's creative scene come together under one roof, and to spend an afternoon with art that goes beyond what you'd usually find hanging on a gallery wall.
Pretoria Soul Session brings together three familiar names in South African broadcasting, Wilson B Nkosi, Kaya FM's Tbose and Metro FM's Paul Mtirara. The three headline a gathering at Fountains Valley that puts soul music and the people behind some of the country's most recognisable radio voices in the spotlight. For fans who grew up listening to these broadcasters, or those who enjoy the music and personalities that have shaped South Africa's radio scene, this is a chance to see them outside the studio and enjoy a different side of their entertainment careers.
The Springboks are taking on Italy, and Jitterbugz Pub & Lounge in Highveld, Centurion, is giving supporters a place to catch all the action. The match will be screened live on the venue's big screens, so bring your fellow Bok fans, get comfortable and settle in for an afternoon of rugby. With free entry, all you need to bring is your green and gold and your match-day spirit.
