Make this Heritage Day one to remember with the award-winning musical VINCENT - HIS QUEST TO LOVE AND BE LOVED, coming to Pretoria for the first time for a one-night-only performance at the Fairtree Atterbury Theatre on Thursday, 24 September.
Well Kapela Productions brings Vincent van Gogh’s turbulent story to life in a captivating multimedia musical cabaret. The production looks beyond the familiar image of Van Gogh as a tortured painter, portraying instead a complex man with a deep need for creativity, connection, love and acceptance.
Daniel Anderson takes centre stage, with Paul Ferreira providing live piano and Amanda Bothma writing and directing the production. Anderson guides the audience through Van Gogh’s emotional and artistic journey, weaving together reimagined musical-theatre classics with pop, rock, and jazz.
It’s an intimate, genre-blending look at Van Gogh, mixing music and theatre to reveal the man behind the familiar image of the tortured artist.
Since its 2022 debut, the show has been making waves on the local theatre scene. There’s plenty of buzz around the show, which has sold out seasons across South Africa, wowed London audiences with a sold-out West End debut in 2025 and earned five stars at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023.
It’s picked up plenty of recognition along the way, including six Naledi Theatre Award nominations and three wins, a Bronze Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival and the 2025 KANNA Award for Best Musical Production at KKNK.
And now, Pretoria gets its chance to experience the show for itself. There’s only one show, so if Van Gogh, live music and a good dose of theatre sound like your ideal Heritage Day, don’t leave booking until the last minute.
