Gallery: The Libertines graffiti alley in London
Pete Doherty is back in the news this week: artist Nick Reynolds has created a life-sized sculpture of the Libertines and Babyshambles singer nailed to a crucifix. Pete fans can visit the grisly piece in St Marylebone Parish Church as part of Art Below’s ‘Stations of the Cross’ exhibition. But there’s already a place of pilgrimage for fans of Doherty, his fellow Libertine Carl Barât and their era-defining band: Grove Passage, a narrow alleyway off Hare Row on the border of Hackney and Bethnal Green. This was the setting for the band’s ‘Up the Bracket’ video, and it’s become to the Libs what the Abbey Road crossing is to The Beatles: a place for fans to leave tributes and messages, mostly inked onto the bricks.
