Elliott Bay Book Company says
This afternoon’s gathering will be an occasion to gather and celebrate the life and work of Madeline DeFrees, a much-loved Northwest poet who passed away in Portland on November 11th, seven days shy of her 96th birthday. She was an integral part of the community over the twenty-five years she lived in Seattle in the latter part of her life, frequently reading at Elliott Bay, Open Books, and The Seattle Public Library, and attending readings by others. Her eight full-length poetry collections include the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize-winning Blue Dusk: New & Selected Poems, 1951 - 2001 and Spectral Waves (both Copper Canyon Press).
