Town Hall Seattle says
How do people experience art? How does art affect the way people understand the rest of the world? Philosopher Alva Noe (Out of Our Heads, Varieties of Presence) says–despite what most people think–art isn’t solely a freewheeling entity, but one based on human biology and neuroscience. In Strange Tools he outlines why, in addition to being visually pleasing, art “is a practice for bringing our organization into view.” He’ll share the ways art is connected to philosophy and rooted in the brain–from criticism and our basic thought processes, to the reasoning behind individual perception. He’ll also explain why art is a “strange tool”–and why we shouldn’t live without it.
