SECRETS OF SITTING! (Part 1)
Any appearances to the contrary notwithstanding, no one has enough “self cushioning” to sit on the ground for 20 minutes and meditate in reasonable comfort, imho!
Secret number 1 is: Bring a simple yoga block. I bought this one at Fred Meyer for $6.00. There are more expensive alternatives from higher priced blocks to full blown meditation cushions (which may not fare very well on concrete, anyway!). I bought this one for the first Seattle Sit and have used it 17 times at Westlake Park. It still looks “good as new!”
The purpose for the block is 2-fold: to provide a soft place for the pelvic sitz bones to rest AND to elevate the bottom to the height of the knees…or higher, the most favorable posture for “sitting” on the ground.
The photos show my block and my bottom on it, which will be evident at Westlake Park in Seattle, April 4, at 2:pm pdt, for the 1st Saturday of the Month Sit in the City event in Seattle. Come one, come all! I hope to meet you there! (Good seats are still available!)
