“Despite everything, no one can dictate who you are to other people.”—Prince

This event is all ages. Please note: the film is rated R, some material may not be suitable for children.

Celebrate the life and musical genius of the late Prince at these screenings of Purple Rain (1984) in Sky Church.

The shocking and sad news that Prince has passed has left us with a hole in our hearts as we mourn the loss of a multi-talented musical phenom, but his inimitable presence will live on forever.

Join us in celebrating a legendary entertainer by seeing him in his first starring film surrounded by other Prince-fanatics as he takes the role of “The Kid,” a young musician rising to the pinnacle of stardom.

Part film, part music video, this glittering journey to fame is highlighted by a catalogue of Prince’s hits, including “I Would Die 4 U,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Let’s Go Crazy,”—a score which deservedly won both an Academy Award and a Grammy.

We welcome you to sing along, share your favorite Prince hits and performances, and come together in remembrance of this transcendent musical talent.

Bring blankets, pillows, cushions, and sleeping bags from home (no chairs please) and get comfy under LED stars for this tribute.

We'll also have the cash register (manufactured in the 1960s) used at Minneapolis’ premier live music venue, First Avenue, during the 1980s. In 1983, Minneapolis-born Prince took over this very same club for the filming of the semi-autobiographical Purple Rain. The club has played a big hand in the careers of a number of local bands, including Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Soul Asylum, and Babes in Toyland.
