The event creator says
CIRCLE SINGING returns to Folklife in May! Boy did I miss singing last year at Folklife. We will informally gather ourselves prior to our 11:00 start time and then take our place (or seats) in the area where our Circle Singing will commence. Christian Swenson and Debby Boland Watt will be leading this giant Circle of Love. You'll meet new and old friends as we fill the Seattle Center with glorious improvisational song.

Location: FolkLife Circle Singing
Date: Sunday, May 28th
Time: 11:00 to 11:50am
Entrance: Free
Drop-Ins: Welcome!
Location: Cornish Playhouse, Outside Fountain Area

CIRCLE SINGING feeds your creative soul through community built and vocally improvised music. We will express our selves spontaneously, participating in an intuitive journey of self-discovery. Singers of every vocal level are welcome to join as Debby, a seasoned facilitator, will guide in the creating our Circle time together.

DEBBY BOLAND WATT is a strong vocalist, improvisational performance artist and master teacher. As a current Seattle area performer recently featured in the Seattle Times, Ms. Watt has become the area's best-known facilitator for Improvisational Voice & Circle Singing.

"The resonance of the different voices coming together buoyed moods, soothed anxieties and turned a group of strangers into a spontaneous community" -The Seattle Times

Debby has studied with Bobby McFerrin, Pauline Oliveros, Meredith Monk's Ensemble, Kurt Elling and other renown musicians as well as having toured the US/Alaska, Canada and Western Europe as a soloist, choral director, studio musician and/or instructor.

"Debby may quite possibly be the female Bobby McFerrin of Seattle! Her singing is reminiscent of Jay Clayton, Bobby McFerrin and other true pioneers of vocal improvisation and singing. Debby is a full meal deal vocalist and unafraid to explore her Jazz and beyond."
-J.R. The Teaching, Seattle, WA

CHRISTIAN SWENSON is a Seattle-based performing artist who articulates his enthusiasm for life with his body and voice. His pioneering "Human Jazz" work (an improvised fusion of singing, acting and dancing) has been seen throughout this country and in Canada, Europe, and Asia. Presently, on the Theater faculty at Seattle University, his diverse training includes dance, mime, voice, as well as work with Korean shaman, Hi-ah Park, and the late Pakistani master-singer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
