Earshot Jazz Presents: Duke Ellington's Sacred Music says
“Every man prays in his own language,” said jazz legend Duke Ellington, whose world-renowned “Sacred Music” is loved by all ages. Earshot Jazz’s holiday tradition is a swinging tribute to one of jazz’s greatest contributors. Written late in his career for jazz big band, vocal, and instrumental soloists, gospel choir, and tap dancers, “Sacred Music” drew its inspiration from the civil rights movement of the 1960s. For the past 27 years Earshot Jazz has presented this annual concert to honor the spirit of the original music. The concert features the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra (co-directed by Michael Brockman and Clarence Acox), guest vocalists Stephen Newby, Nichol Veneé Eskridge, the NW Chamber Chorus, and special guest tap-dancer Alex Dugdale.
