In celebration of International Women's Day, INTERZONE--Seattle's longest-running and most comprehensive night of old-school darkness--will present its yearly tribute and focus on the women of goth with an entire night of dark music featuring women singers and musicians.

National Women's Day has been observed since 1909, after 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights, then expanding to International Womens' Day in 1910. Since its birth in the socialist movement, International Women's Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike.

While innumerable achievements have been made in women's equality and emancipation, the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy is still a hurtle in overcoming issues such as sexism, domestic violence, and rape culture; women's health and reproductive issues; and inequality in education, business, and politics. The work has also been brought into stark relief against a backdrop of emboldened misogynists ushered in by a pendulum swing back to regressive politics and attitudes.

But while much work still needs to be done, on Sunday March 12 we celebrate the achievements and contributions women have made in the dark underground music we love. From feminist punk vanguards like The Bags and X-Ray Spex, to goth icons like Siouxsie, to heavenly voices like Lisa Gerrard, to industrial pioneers like Cosey Fanni Tutti, come celebrate the feminine!

*Edit* This special night just got even better! Thanks to an anonymous donor, we will be raffling off this pair of tickets to the sold-out Diamanda Galas concert! Money raised from this will go to the local charity Young Women Empowered. So bring along a few extra dollars for a good cause and for your chance to win!
