The event creator says
Islamophobia is real, as youth we witness it every day. For some odd reasons, folks are scared of us due to our beliefs. Sadly in this day and age this phobia leads to killing and extreme actions being taken towards the Muslim people. So instead of sitting and watching the media bash us and not cover Islamophobia stories, we took the initiative to make a youth committee to help make this phobia go away. We all have fears that left us and got use it. The goal of our youth committee is to inform the community about Islamophobia and what Islam is. We as Muslims know the amazing religion we believe in and what is truly is.. But we fail to share this beauty with our neighbors, classmates and the communities we come out of. Instead, we let them have this phobia about Islam and let it be like that. The amazing thing is we can change that! This is why Islamophobia 101 has been created!
This committee is currently recruiting 5 dedicated, hard working youth from each local mosque and Islamic organization. These 5 youth will each have a different topic that they have assigned to them! They will be trained and quizzed on these topics in order for them to answer questions about these topics from non-Muslims! A group of mentors will be meeting with them once a week at their home mosque and giving them basic training. This is all in preparation for our huge Islamophobia awareness day at pike place market! Where the youth and a few mentors will be holding some booths to answer questions and do Dawah to strangers. The day is Saturday April 11th! We want as many masjids to be involved as possible!
