Israel Education On Campus: Experiences And Aspirations

Time Out says

Join us at Hillel for an engaging and informative talk by Professor Kenneth W. Stein on the topic of Israel education on campus. Professor Stein will address four questions: What lessons may be gleaned from four decades of teaching the modern Middle East, Israel, and the Arab-Israeli conflict? How have students’ abilities and parents’ expectations changed in highly charged academic settings when it comes to learning about Israel and the modern Middle East? Why do professors choose to teach narratives rather than history? How can Israel’s story be told without polemic but with commitment? Since 1977, Professor Stein has taught Middle Eastern history, political science and Israel studies at Emory University, where he established the first permanent Israel Studies Institute in the U.S. His scholarship focuses on American foreign policy toward the Middle East, the origins of modern Israel, the modern Arab world and Arab-Israeli diplomacy.
