New York University’s Jennifer Jacquet explores this concept in Is Shame Necessary?, highlighting the multitude of positives that guilt can have when used to pressure individuals and corporations in targeted ways. In conversation with author George Dyson, she’ll explain why public shaming might be a necessary evil, but one that’s only effective when everyone participates in the process.
