This week we will taste our main lot from Idido and our experimental Idido 13 lot.

The Idido cooperative is located just east of the small, bustling town of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. Its members—situated throughout seven communities in the area—are growing some of the highest-altitude coffee in the region. We work closely with this organic cooperative year after year to select their best coffees, which are known for their sweet and delicate floral, melon, and citrus notes.

This experimental coffee from the Idido Cooperative was sorted for the smallest, most-dense beans. Thirteen is a reference to the small screen size used to separate these beans in preparation for export. Normally these small beans would be considered less desirable and cast aside, but this coffee challenges the idea that bigger is better and bursts with juicy notes of orange blossom, lime, and honeydew.

We're doing a residency at Seattle's KEXP coffee shop with our long-time pals at La Marzocco USA through September 26. The residency features unique coffee beverages every week from rotating cast of US Coffee champs—including Cherry Street Coffee House's Laila Ghambari, as well as Counter Culture's own Erin McCarthy, Katie Carguilo, and Lem Butler.
