Three rounds
Elimination per round

Three rules apply:
Poets must perform their own ORIGINAL work
No props, costumes or musical accompaniment
Poets have 3 minutes to perform a poem
(plus a 10 second grace period)

POETS must have three poems

About the featured poet

Matthew P. Gallant lives just outside of Washington, D.C. with his wife, Ayanna. Employed as a teacher since 2003, he’s also a Busboys & Poets open mic host, author of a dozen chapbooks and one full-length collection (Hope for the Body), an independent publisher (Sargent Press authors include Jesse Parent, Casey Rocheteau and Chris August, among others) and a nationally touring poet. He competed at the 2010 and 2011 National Poetry Slams and was crowned the 2011 NorthBeast Individual Poetry Slam Champion. He has featured at venues all over the northeast and the mid-Atlantic, and most recently, his poem “Inscription” was named a Finalist in the Stephen Dunn Prize for Poetry sponsored by Solstice Lit Mag, judged by Jamaal May.
