UW African Studies Program says
Media images tricle into global consciousness - war casualties broadcast on Al-Jazeera and demeaning pictures of the Prophet Mohammad. These images become forces of change, influencing protest, gender, and political identity. What kind of fall-out does a traumatic image produce? How can post-9/11 history be reconceived from a South African viewpoint? How do playwrights show surprising shifts in their trans-national black protest?
Speaker: Kimberly Segall, Professor of English at SPU and Affilate Professor of Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies at UW.
