The Bushwick Book Club Seattle: Original Songs Inspired By ‘Animal, Vegetable, Miracle’ says
Barbara Kingsolver’s year-long quest to eat only locally-grown food is chronicled in her book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. After careful reading, 10 members of The Bushwick Book Club Seattle will perform a set of world premiere pieces inspired by the book. The evening–featuring food and drink from local food vendors, The Seattle Farmers Markets, and other organizations–is hosted by Mary Purdy, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Professor at Bastyr College, who’ll teach musicians, readers, and audience members about healthy eating habits. Performers include Michelle Searle, Tom Rorem, Michelle Khazak, Reggie Garrett, Annie Jantzer, Tekla Waterfield, Nick Droz, and more. Bushwick will also be welcoming back its youth performer Kay Gill, a student at Ballard High School. Whether you’re familiar with Kingsolver’s work or not, you won’t want to miss this entertaining evening filled with food, music, Bushwick’s famous Quiz with Wes Weddell, and a book synopsis by Emmett Montgomery!
