The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture presents The Vera Project: 14 years of True and Sincere Friends, an exhibition featuring visuals and stories from The Vera Project community, including posters, photographs and ephemera in the Seattle City Hall Gallery, July 2 through August 28, 2015.

The Vera Project: 14 years of True and Sincere Friends explores the history and accomplishments of the first all-ages nonprofit venue in Seattle. “True and Sincere Friends" is a translation of the Latin phrase Veri Et Recti Amici (VERA).

The Vera Project was inspired by Vera Gronigen, the legendary arts and music institution and "Club for the International Pop Underground" in Gronigen, Netherlands.

For over 14 years The Vera Project has been hosting musical acts spanning all genres, from the Murder City Devils to Macklemore. The exhibition chronicles the history of Vera from its founding in 2001 when they produced all ages concerts in various venues around Seattle, to their first home downtown and to their current home in the Northwest Rooms at Seattle Center, which includes a 362-capacity showroom, dedicated gallery, silkscreen studio and recording studio.

“We wanted to create an exhibition that wasn’t just a poster show,” says Kelsey Gallo, Vera Art Gallery Chair and longstanding member of the Silkscreen Committee. “We wanted to showcase Vera’s people, because they are truly what makes The Vera Project incredible. Compiling the stories highlighted in this exhibition has been a crying, laughing, and exciting joy to undertake and a reminder as to why I’ve been hanging around since 2003. I can’t wait to share it with the rest of Seattle. Veri Et Recti Amici.”

City Hall Lobby Gallery and the Anne Focke Gallery is located at 600 Fourth Ave., Seattle, WA 98104. The galleries are open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
