With climate change becoming a mounting societal issue, these two University of Washington researchers are analyzing how environmental and tectonic changes affect the world we live in. John Fullmer (Earth and Space Sciences) explains the process of volcano formation, magma cooling, and how this process helps build continents, while creating large volcanoes like our own Mount Rainier. Then, Julie Weicheld (Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences) will share her research on how shifts in the environment can cause tropical diseases to pop up in new places–and whether or not this translates to Washington’s mosquito population.
