Town Hall Seattle says
With fossil fuels and climate change becoming mounting societal issues, these two University of Washington researchers are analyzing a main alternative–biofuels. Kelly Fleming (Chemical Engineering student at the University of Washington) explains the somewhat expensive process of producing plant-based biofuels, and how her research to study the specific enzymes involved has the potential to make this process as cheap as creating traditional fossil fuels. Then, Ashley Mihle (UW’s School of Environmental and Forest Sciences) will share her research on the water-based environmental impacts of using renewable biofuels in Washington–and whether the benefits outweigh the risks.
