The Daphnes & Syrinx Effect
Syrinx Effect, Kate Olson and Naomi Siegel's electroacoustic duo, is teaming up with harpist Monica Schley's new project, The Daphnes, to present an evening of new music at 9pm on March 12th at Egan's Ballard Jam House (1707 NW Market St, Ballard).
Syrinx Effect's music has been called "aurally stimulating," "life affirming" and "a wild menagerie of sounds" --Stefan Wood, freejazzblog. Both their self-released studio EPs are available to stream and purchase on Bandcamp. This performance will feature new music that will be on Syrinx Effect's upcoming full length vinyl release, to be recorded spring of 2015.
Harpist Monica Schley will debut The Daphnes, an all-female unconventional chamber quartet of harp, violin, cello and voice. Drawing sounds from neo-folkster M. Ward, 90’s alternative bands Mazzy Star, and Cowboy Junkies as well as jazz musicians Pharaoh Sanders and Alice Coltrane, Schley writes modern compositions for the harp. The Daphnes' soaring melodies evoke a gypsy folk aesthetic inside a classical chamber ensemble.
