Time Out says

Sun International’s Boardwalk Hotel strikes the perfect balance between comfort and luxury. Its sweeping ocean views and world-class leisure offerings make every stay unforgettable.

From the moment I arrived, the hotel’s architecture caught my eye. The elegant façade set the stage for what awaited inside, and stepping into the reception area was inspiring. Thoughtful design details, from striking artwork and framed photographs to richly patterned wallpaper, create a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere.

Why stay at The Boardwalk Hotel?

If you are looking for a home away from home, The Boardwalk Hotel is a fantastic option that offers luxury, comfort, and a wealth of leisure. I spent three nights at the Hotel, and every moment emphasised its reputation as a sanctuary of ease and elegance. Whether it was unwinding after a long day or simply admiring the views, the experience was as comfortable as it was memorable.

The four-star hotel is situated in a peaceful and clean area of Summerstrand, on Beach Road, within the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan area. My drive to the Boardwalk was filled with countless moments of quiet admiration as I viewed the neighbourhood's beauty. The hotel is close to natural landmarks, ideal for memorable stays and picture-perfect Instagram photos.

Apart from the rooms, the hotel has excellent entertainment options - from the casino, which offers a range of slot machines and tables, to the heated pool.

The Breakout Quest is also a win. This is where you can create lasting memories with various games for all ages. I took part in the Prison Break game. Boy, was I in for a surprise. The clues in the room provided some comfort, and I really enjoyed playing.

Fitness fanatics are catered for at the hotel's fitness centre. As for me, I was more than happy to admire the equipment from a safe distance while thinking about other cool activities that would be more worthy of sharing with my followers on social media.

The hotel has The Camelot Spa to help guests unwind and feel rejuvenated.

If you are looking for a hotel stay that offers unforgettable memories, Sun International’s Boardwalk Hotel and Casino is definitely one to consider.

What are the rooms like at The Boardwalk Hotel?

The Boardwalk Hotel has 140 rooms and suites with a well-designed layout. The rooms offer luxury sea-facing views and a welcoming and relaxing experience.

During my stay, I slept in the luxury suite. I was comfortable and loved the interior design.

The rooms have accessories such as air conditioning, a fridge, modern charging ports, Wi-Fi, and a TV.

My room had a small TV with modern furniture and luxurious sofas, a small table for working, several mirrors, and a balcony with breathtaking views of the ocean and the hotel's pool area. The view was my favourite. Each morning when I got up, I’d spend a few minutes admiring the natural surroundings. This is definitely one of the reasons I’d return to the hotel.

The bathroom in my room was visually attractive, with high-quality toiletries, fluffy towels, a big bathtub, and a spacious shower. Bath time was an experience to look forward to. I enjoyed coming back ‘home’ to a hot bath.

Other rooms and suites at the hotel include: The luxury twin room, the luxury king room (ideal for a couple’s retreat or solo travellers who prefer extra space because of its king-size bed), and the luxury accessible room, which is designed for guests with mobility needs. There is also the superior luxury family room, which is ideal for family getaways. It features a king-size bed, a sleeper couch, and space for two adults and two children under 12. The other options are the luxury family room, the junior suite, the luxury suite, and the presidential suite, which is the top-of-the-range offering.

What is the restaurant like at The Boarwalk Hotel?

The hotel offers various dining options and room service.

The Bayside Pantry is inside the casino, so under-18s are not allowed. The restaurant specialises in pasta, meat, salads, and fish dishes. It serves lunch on Sundays from 11am to 3pm and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm to 10pm.

During my stay, I enjoyed the buffet breakfast offered at Kiplings Brasserie. The hotel serves a variety of mouth-watering dishes. The restaurant has a modern look with some truly beautiful views.

The Lobby Lounge restaurant is ideal for enjoying tea while responding to emails or creating a business presentation.

What is the service like at The Boardwalk Hotel?

The Boardwalk Hotel has welcoming staff. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff's friendliness shone through with every service they offered.

I stayed at the hotel for three nights, and every time I returned from a day’s activity, my room was spotless, thanks to the professional staff.

The restaurant staff were also great. They always checked to see if guests needed anything. As a tea lover, I enjoyed the variety of teas and hot beverages available.

A standout facility at The Boardwalk Hotel?

One distinct feature of the hotel is the breathtaking views of Hobie Beach, which can be seen from the rooms. The beach is also within walking distance of the hotel.

The hotel's indoor heated pools were also my favourite features. During my stay, I had dinner by the pool area. The setting was absolutely amazing.

What’s the area like around The Boardwalk Hotel?

The hotel is situated in an ideal location. You can shop ‘til you drop at Boardwalk Mall. I enjoyed having dinner at the Hello! Beach restaurant at the mall. Their pork chips were so yummy.

The Kragga Kamma Game Park is a mere 30-minute drive from the hotel. Some of the Park's wild animals include White Rhinos, Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, and Nyala. You can self-drive or opt for the two-hour guided tour.

Golfers are in for a treat at one of South Africa’s top golf courses, the Humewood Links Golf Club, a mere ten minutes from Boardwalk.

Route 67 is a must-see for art lovers. It features local artists who have created 67 amazing art pieces to honour the late Nelson Mandela.

A must-do nearby destination is the Sundays River, approximately 30 minutes from the hotel. This is where I truly had the time of my life sandboarding. I also booked a boat cruise and saw tons of dolphins, a memory I will cherish forever.

Why you should book a stay at The Boardwalk Hotel?

The Boardwalk Hotel hits all the high notes - comfort, rest, and entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and believe anyone who is in search of leisure and treasured memories should definitely book a stay!
