Gunbygun says
Gun by Gun has partnered with President Reed, Bruce Franks of 28 to Life, and SLMPD Chief Dotson to launch a crowdfunded gun buyback campaign in St. Louis, to remove guns from city streets and bring awareness to the gun violence crisis St. Louis faces. This event celebrates the launch of that campaign. Join the discussion using #GunxGunSTL

"Guns in the Hands of Artists"
The launch will take place in conjunction with the Guns In The Hands of Artists exhibition. Guns In The Hands of Artists is a community-based social-activist artistic project using decommissioned guns taken off the streets of New Orleans that were distributed to artists to use as the raw materials in creating works of art.

This pivotal traveling exhibition organized by the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery examines the role of guns in American culture through the work of dozens of internationally known artists, including painters, glass artists, sculptors, photographers, and poets. The exhibition fosters a conversation about guns and gun violence by bringing the discussion into the realm of art; without the often partisan and polarized politics that surround the issue. Art as the language for dialogue …and possibly change.

Washington University's Role
Presented by the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts with support from the Office of the Provost, “Guns in the Hands of Artists” is part of Washington University’s yearlong initiative “Gun Violence: A Public Health Crisis.” Launched last April with leadership of the Institute for Public Health and the Brown School, the initiative seeks to raise awareness of gun violence as a public health issue and to identify gaps in currently available data and research.

28 to Life
"28 to Life" believes in revitalizing our community by building a bridge to fuse the gap in our police/community relationship. Youth empowerment, as well as economic growth through small businesses are also key components in our mission to rebuilding our community. We know that if we give the community the canvas, the paint, the brushes and show them the different strokes, they will create life's masterpiece. "28 to Life" will be instrumental in utilizing these areas to fix yesterday’s problems in order to create a better tomorrow." More at www.28tolife.org
